Plastic Wire (also known as Brim Reed or Plastic Memory Wire) is commonly used in millinery around the edge of hat brims. It retains its curve creating shapes and forms to help larger brims from "flopping". The gauge of the wire is available in 20 gauge / 0.85mm, 17 gauge / 1.2mm and 12 gauge / 2mm. Sold in lengths of 5m or 20m.

If using a ferrule to join we recommend adding either the support of some glue, wrapping the ends with cotton before inserting the ferrule or making the surface rougher with some sandpaper. These methods can help clamp the ferrule more firmly to smoother surfaces. You may find taping over the ferrule will also give a firm smoother finish.
