Frequently asked questions

What types of projects are body boards commonly used for?

Body boards are often used for costumes, performance wear, competition pieces,, and other projects where the piece needs to be embellished.

They help hold fabric under light tension for ease of applying crystals, sequins, beads and other embellishments.

How do I choose the right size board?

As every garment and body is shaped differently, we have created this tool to help you find your closest fit. Measure your chest, waist & hips and enter them into our calculator for your recommendation.

If you’re between board sizes, we recommend sizing down rather than up as the slight looseness can be adjusted more easily.

How do I measure my chest, waist & hips?

For your chest and hip measurement, measure your widest point on your chest and hips.

For your waist, measure the smallest point on your waist.

When measuring make sure you measuring tape sits level around the body.

How should the costume sit on the body board?

The material should sit with some light tension across the board.

As a general guide, it should not need to stretch more than 5–8cm to fit onto the board. And should sit smoothly without overstretching the fabric or straining the seams.

How do I stop glue transferring onto the body board?

Place parchment or baking paper between the material and the board when using the glue. This prevents glue transfer and makes clean up easier.

Why do crystals bunch together after I remove the costume from the body board?

If embellishments are placed too closely while the garment is stretched on the board, they can shift closer together once the garment relaxes off tension.

Leaving small gaps between crystals creates a cleaner result once finished.
